Lab members are active members of our community

Ramadan Abdelrehim and Ahmed Omar, PhD students in the geophysics lab, are volunteering with TEXAS YES foundation to distribute school supplies boxes for students in elementary schools in south Texas (August 2023)

Our lab members were invited speakers at the Corpus Christi Geological Society and the Coastal Bend Geophysical Society meeting.

Ramadan Abdelrehim, a PhD student, received an invitation to present at the Corpus Christi Geological Society and the Coastal Bend Geophysical Society meeting (November 2023).

The presentation topic was:
Factors Controlling Barrier Island Geomorphology: Insights from Geophysical Surveys

Using Frequency Domain Electromagnetic (FDEM) and LiDAR data to understand the correlation between the subsurface features and the barrier island morphology and understand the human development contribution to these relationships.

Lab students keep getting honored with prestigious scholarships

PhD student Ramadan Abdelrehim and Master student Meghan Bygate were honored with the prestigious Coastal Bend Geophysical Society (CBGS) Scholarship.

Active students in the geophysics lab continue to get scholarships and awards from different places to support there research journey.

Ph.D. Students from Our Geophysics Lab Sweep Ph.D. oral presentations Awards at Texas A&M University System Student Symposium Pathway March 2023

In a remarkable achievement that underscores the excellence of our Geophysics lab, three of our outstanding Ph.D. students, Ramadan Abdelrehim, Ahmed Omar, and Mohamed Mousa, have claimed the top honors in the Mathematical and Physical Sciences session presentation awards at the prestigious Texas A&M University System Student Symposium Pathway 2023.

The symposium, which drew participants from across the Texas A&M University System, provided a platform for students to showcase their research contributions and scholarly endeavors. Our talented trio not only participated but also left an indelible mark on the event.

Ramadan Abdelrehim, who secured the first place in the competition, dazzled the audience with his cutting-edge research findings on using geophysical techniques to study the barrier islands subsurface for better protection from the impact of storms and hurricanes.

Ahmed Omar, earning the second position, captivated the judges and fellow participants with his in-depth exploration of new techniques for locating fault systems in South Texas.

Mohamed Mousa, securing the third spot, impressed with his remarkable presentation skills and contributions to the field. His success reinforces the lab’s reputation for fostering academic excellence.

These accolades not only reflect the dedication and hard work of our Ph.D. students but also underscore the commitment of our Geophysics lab to fostering a culture of academic excellence and research innovation. We are immensely proud of Ramadan Abdelrehim, Ahmed Omar, and Mohamed Mousa for their outstanding achievements and look forward to witnessing their continued success in the world of geophysics.

This remarkable accomplishment further cements our lab’s position as a leader in geophysics research and highlights the caliber of talent that thrives within our academic community. Congratulations to our exceptional Ph.D. students on this well-deserved recognition, and we eagerly anticipate their future contributions to the field.

Dr. Mohamed Ahmed’s PhD Students Honored with Prestigious Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) Award and Scholarships

Dr. Mohamed Ahmed’s PhD Students Honored with Prestigious Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) Award and Scholarships

Ramadan Abdelrehim has been honored with the SEG’s Near-Surface Geophysical Research Award. This esteemed accolade is globally bestowed upon a single graduate or undergraduate student every year, following an intense and competitive selection process. Ramadan intends to utilize this award to procure essential field supplies and cover travel expenses associated with his attendance at scientific conferences. Abdelrehim shared, ‘Beyond its significant financial impact, this award holds profound personal significance. It stands as a reaffirmation of my unwavering commitment to academic excellence and my fervor for advancing geophysical research. The recognition and support extended through this award further ignite my motivation and enthusiasm, propelling me to pursue my academic endeavors with renewed vigor.’

Mohamed Mousa has been awarded both the SEG’s Charlie and Jean Smith Scholarship and the Richard & Rollande Lockhart Scholarship. He plans to allocate these funds towards his fieldwork and travel expenses. Mousa expressed his gratitude, stating, ‘I am deeply honored and fortunate to have been chosen as the recipient of the SEG scholarships. As the first individual in my family to pursue higher education abroad, these scholarships hold a special significance. The financial assistance provided by these scholarships will alleviate the financial burden, affording me more time to dedicate to my studies and propelling me towards a promising future. These awards will facilitate my participation in international conferences, bolster my research efforts, and enable me to achieve my academic aspirations.’
